Spread Your Sunshine Founder Melanie S. Griffin, Esq. was recently a featured panelist at the Women’s Alliance of the Greater Orlando Builders Association ("GOBA") Wellness Webinar: “Building a Better You.” Melanie, along with Heather Maloney, Maria Aponte, and Allison Carmany, provided insight on strengthening your physical and mental wellness. Below are highlights discussed by each speaker to help YOU build a better you and know what to expect from the full complimentary webinar replay.
Heather, a Development Director for the American Heart Association, focused on the HEART, including seven ways to increase your heart health: don’t smoke (or vape!), control weight, reduce blood sugar, control cholesterol, manage blood pressure—high blood pressure is the single most significant risk factor for heart disease!, be active, and eat healthy. She explained the risk of stroke for people with high blood pressure, including how to spot the signs, and the difference in heart attack symptoms for men vs. women.
Maria, CEO of Team Love Your Life, focused on the BODY, including making the decision to change your body, finding a workout program that works for YOU, learning to follow a balanced nutrition program, and drinking at least half your weight in water everyday. She also touched on the importance of personal development and the benefits of having people who will hold you accountable to your goals. Like-minded business owners and clients, for example, can keep you on track to grow and scale your business, such as by learning how to advertise on SiriusXM in order to reach untapped audiences.
Melanie focused on the BRAIN, including how you can create a positive mindset by focusing on how amazing you are. Ask yourself, “Why am I fabulously awesome and uniquely talented? Why am I worthy? Why am I enough?” You have the opportunity to transform your mindset everyday by determining what you want to get out of your day and the feeling you will create for others when they connect with you. Melanie also suggested having a "gremlin,” a physical representation of your negative self-doubts. When you feel anxious, look at the “gremlin,” tell it that its negativity is not coming with you to your meeting/presentation/etc. because you are awesome, and intentionally leave it behind in your office/house/hotel room/car/etc. Finally, Melanie encourages you to uplift others. It not only helps you spread and be filled with positivity, it shows the people around you that they matter. It’ll surprise you how much those in your life need to hear it.
Allison, Transformational Life Coach at Soulful Evolution, focused on OVERALL health. She discussed assessing your overall wellness by focusing on eight categories: physical health, mental health, relationships, home, recreation, spirituality, career, and finances. She also spoke about the drivers of behavior and how they all link to your beliefs about yourself. She finished by emphasizing the importance of creating a vision of how you want to live your life, including leading a meditation to help create such vision.
